Last week, Springfield firefighters helped some of the more than 50 children living at a city homeless shelter evacuate the building during a fire. Today, those kids got a chance to say thank you.
The children gave thank you cards to the firefighters who fought the blaze at the Missouri Hotel last Friday. The fire, which started on the second floor, displaced 185 people including 56 children. The kids are temporarily living in Cox North Hospital. Construction crews have been working on repairing the hotel and some of the kids may be able to move back into the shelter by the end of the week.
Fire officials have said the blaze was an accidental electrical fire.
